The Collared Kingfisher, Todiramphus chloris, is a striking coastal bird found through parts of South and Southeast Asia in mangroves, estuaries and open woodlands. Recognised by its turquoise-blue upperparts, white underparts and broad white collar, it has a strong, pointed bill and an alert, upright stance. Collared Kingfishers feed on crabs, insects, small fish and lizards, watching patiently from a perch before swooping down to capture their prey. They also adapt readily to parks and gardens near suitable feeding grounds. With its brilliant colouring and watchful presence, the Collared Kingfisher is a distinctive feature of tropical coastal landscapes.
