About me

An artist is painting a colorful bird on a canvas. The artist is bald, wearing glasses and a black T-shirt, and is sitting in a room with large windows and a white backdrop.

I am an Australian wildlife artist with a lifelong fascination for birds, animals and the natural world. Growing up in Australia, I was surrounded by extraordinary wildlife, and that early connection has stayed with me ever since. My work is driven by a desire to slow people down — to invite them to look closely at the beauty, character and vulnerability of the creatures we often pass by too quickly.

My paintings are highly detailed and realistic, built up slowly in acrylic paint with close attention to light, form, texture and anatomy. Whether I am painting the delicate feathering of a small bird, the worn surface of a branch, or the quiet presence of an endangered animal, I aim to create work that feels both truthful and emotionally alive. Accuracy matters to me, but so does atmosphere. I want each subject to feel present — not just illustrated, but encountered.

Birds remain at the heart of my practice. I am especially drawn to their colour, elegance and individuality, as well as their place in the history of natural science and wildlife art. My work often looks back to the great traditions of natural history illustration — artists such as Audubon, Gould and Merian — while bringing that influence into a contemporary fine-art setting. I am interested in the point where observation, craftsmanship and emotion meet.

Alongside birds, my recent work has expanded into other Australian wildlife, including species such as the Numbat and Thylacine. These subjects allow me to explore not only beauty and detail, but also memory, extinction, conservation and the fragile relationship between wildlife and habitat. For me, each painting is a quiet act of respect for the animal and the world it belongs to.

My background also includes fine art photography, and that has strongly shaped the way I think about composition, lighting and mood. Even when working traditionally with paint, I often approach an image with a photographer’s eye — considering stillness, depth, contrast and the emotional pull of a single moment.

Over recent years, my work has received growing recognition, including Best in Show at the Holmes Art Prize 2024, an Award of Excellence at the Holmes Art Prize 2025, finalist recognition in the Flanagan Art Prize 2025 and the American Wildlife Art Competition and Exhibition at Arcadian Gallery in 2025. My work has also been featured on the cover of International Artist Magazine, and my Gould Series was published in the coffee table art book Homage To The Bird in 2023.

Through originals, limited edition prints and commissions, I hope to create artwork that brings people closer to wildlife — not as something distant or decorative, but as something precious, complex and worth protecting.
