This painting of an endangered Numbat was selected as a finalist in the prestigious David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation’s Wildlife Artist of the Year exhibition in London, where it also sold. My aim was to place this vulnerable animal in an unsettling, foreboding setting, suggesting the uncertainty surrounding its survival. I sought an “Old Master” feel, drawing on the atmosphere of historical painting to reflect on our longstanding tendency to control nature rather than live alongside it. The work invites contemplation of both the Numbat’s quiet beauty and the consequences of our relationship with the natural world.
The Original Painting is professionally scanned and colour-corrected and is printed using fade-proof archival inks. The final result is very close to the original for a fraction of the cost!
