In this painting, a Barn Owl holds the viewer’s gaze against a rugged mountain landscape beneath a darkening sky. Its pale, heart-shaped face and richly patterned plumage emerge from the subdued surroundings, giving it an almost luminous presence. I wanted to capture the tension between the owl’s apparent gentleness and its nature as a silent hunter. The distant moon, weathered rock and sparse trees create an atmosphere of solitude and anticipation, while the earthy palette recalls the mood of an Old Master painting. It is a portrait of watchfulness, poised at the threshold between daylight and darkness.
