Native to areas from southern Mexico down into the Amazon Basin, these large, intelligent birds live in pairs or small family groups and often mate for life. They feed mainly on fruits, nuts, and seeds, and are famous for gathering in noisy flocks at clay “licks” along riverbanks. Sadly, habitat loss and illegal trapping have reduced many wild populations, making conservation efforts crucial to keep their wild colours in the forest instead of just in cages and zoos.
